Here are five things to know:

1. The algorithm seeks at least two of four systemic inflammatory response syndrome criteria and one of 14 acute organ dysfunction parameters.

2. The study found the predictive analytics could pinpoint a majority of high-risk patients within 48 hours of admission.

3. The early identification allowed for early and targeted medical intervention.

4. Patients who triggered the alert had a hazards ratio of four, indicating their higher chance of dying during that hospital stay.

5. Researchers concluded predictive analytics immensely benefits patient care.
