There were over 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2010, which accounted for 61 percent of total expenditures relating to cosmetic procedures.
“These numbers mirror what we have been hearing across the country this past year,” said Felmont EavesIII, MD, ASAPS president, in the news release. “Patients who put off surgery because of uncertainty in the economy and the job market are coming back for tried and true procedures. Growth in demand will likely continue as the recession eases and baby boomers and their offspring begin to explore surgical and nonsurgical options.”
The top five cosmetic surgical procedures were:
- Breast augmentation (318,123)
- Liposuction (289,016)
- Eyelid surgery (152,123)
- Abdominoplasty (144,929)
- Breast reduction (138,152)
Women accounted for 92 percent of the total number of cosmetic procedures in 2010, according to the report.
