FDA Launches New Counterfeit Drug Detection Device

FDA has unveiled a new device designed to detect counterfeit products and packaging, according to a CNN Health report.

The Counterfeit Detection Device #3, or CD3, is a handheld device. It emits wavelengths of light that can be used on tablets and capsules, powders and packaging, according to the report. It is designed to perform real-time comparisons with authentic drugs. It is intended to detect tampered, re-labeled or re-glued products.

 

The CD3 is currently in use at FDA field laboratories, border crossings, import centers and international mail facilities.
