The groups involved included the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Olympus and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The sponsors of a briefing at the event advocated for the passage of legislation, the Colorectal Cancer Prevention, Early Detection, and Treatment Act, which would establish a national program under the Center for Disease Control and Prevention for colorectal cancer screenings and treatment.
The proposed legislation would target the pre-Medicare population who are at high risk for colorectal cancer as well as give uninsured and underinsured patients coverage for screening, diagnostic follow up and treatment.
