COBRA Insurance Subsidies for Unemployed Run Out

Generous federal subsidies to the newly unemployed for COBRA health insurance expired June 1, according to a report by Insurance Networking News.

Just before its week-long recess, the House removed provisions to extend COBRA benefits from its jobs bill.

The subsidies, part of the stimulus bill, covered 65 percent of the COBRA premium for up to 15 months. The money helped laid-off workers transition from sharing the premium with their former employer to paying all of it.
