CMS has delayed a mandatory reporting deadline that would implement Medicare Secondary Payer reporting, according to a press release from the Medicare Advocacy Recovery Coalition.

The deadline, originally April 1, 2010, has been pushed back to Jan. 1, 2011. The Medicare Secondary Payer program is intended to ensure that Medicare does not pay for services to other health insurance or coverage has the primary responsibility for covering.

The delay was applauded by the MARC Coalition, which represents attorneys, brokers, insureds, insurers, self-insured and third-party administrators. The coalition had written to the CMS in January asking for changes to the deadline.
