Physician Office Manager Pleads Guilty to Buying Unapproved Devices

The office manager of an OB/GYN practice in Hilton Head, S.C., has pleaded guilty to buying intrauterine devices that were not FDA-approved, according to an Island Packet report.

Jason Pampucha, office manager of Advanced Women’s Care of the Lowcountry, had ordered Mirena brand IUDs from a Canadian supplier.

 

He was sentenced to two years probation in circuit court, but he could have received as much as two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. A separate civil suit by the state is demanding the practice refund $37,287 in Medicaid payments for the devices.
