The outbreak stemmed from contaminated medication from the New England Compounding Center in Framingham, Mass. As of March 4, CDC had received 720 reports of fungal meningitis, including 48 deaths, from 20 states. Based on input from expert consultants and physicians who have treated affected patients, CDC revised its “Interim Treatment and Diagnostic Guidance for Central Nervous System and Parameningeal Infections Associated with Injection of Contaminated Steroid Products.” The revisions include new information on several topics, including the following:

• Non first-line medications
