CDC: 10 Public Health Achievements of First Decade of 21st Century

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have identified 10 major public health achievements of the first 10 years of the 21st century in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

The 10 achievements, not ranked in any order, are as follows:

  1. Vaccine-preventable diseases
  2. Prevention and control of infectious diseases
  3. Tobacco control
  4. Maternal and infant health
  5. Motor vehicle safety
  6. Cardiovascular disease prevention
  7. Occupational safety
  8. Cancer prevention
  9. Childhood lead poisoning prevention
  10. Improved public health preparedness and response
