Dr. Apple was director of the Apple Laboratories for Ophthalmic Devices Research in Sullivan’s Island, S.C. Earlier, he established the Center for Developing World Ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Dr. Apple earned his MD at University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, served an ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University and Charity Hospital in New Orleans and completed an ocular pathology fellowship at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.
