Dr. Saks was determined by the Medical Board to have committed gross negligence in a case where his patient died after a procedure in which he acted as both anesthesiologist and surgeon. He also failed to report this death to his licensing agency within the timeframe required by law.
Additionally, the board claims Dr. Saks failed to maintain adequate medical records and malpractice insurance.
Dr. Saks has been charged with insurance fraud, allegedly defrauding four disability insurance companies for approximately $4 million worth of services. Dr. Saks pleaded not guilty to the charges and will begin trial May 12.
