California Fines 13 Hospitals for Licensing Violations Resulting in Patient Injury

The California Department of Public Health announced 13 hospitals have received fines totaling $825,000 for violating licensing requirements that led to patient injury or death.

Hospitals are fined $25,000 for incidents that occurred before 2009. Due to new legislation, incidents that occurred in 2009 or later carry fines of $50,000 for the first violation, $75,000 for the second and $100,000 for the third or subsequent violations.
