Bill in North Carolina Would Bar Insurance Coverage Mandate

A bill in the North Carolina senate would make it illegal to require residents to buy health insurance, as the federal healthcare reform law mandates, according to a report by the Washington Daily News.

If passed, the bill would ask North Carolina voters to amend the state constitution to allow for the health insurance provision.

But it is doubtful the senate would take up the bill in its current short session, generally devoted to budget matters.
