Paul Yock, MD, director of Stanford’s biodesign program, will spearhead the effort. The biodesign program provides medical technology training to teams of physicians, engineers and business students. In one year, the teams indentify a medical need, develop a device to fill that need, create a business plan and present their projects to venture capitalists. In its 11 years, the program has produced more than 200 patents and 24 start-up companies.
