Association of Research in Vision Ophthalmology Names New President, Officers

The Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology has named a new president and several officers to serve one-year terms with the organization.

Peng Khaw, MD, PhD, will serve as president and succeed Jeffrey Boatright, PhD, whose term ended in May. Dr. Khaw is director of the U.K. National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Jacob Pe’er, MD, will serve as vice president. He is a professor and chairman of the department of ophthalmology at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Israel and associate dean of Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Medicine.

Justine Smith, MBBS, PhD, will serve as president-elect. She is an associate professor of ophthalmology and cell and developmental biology at the Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health and Science University.

John Penn, PhD, and David Williams, PhD, will serve as vice presidents elect. Dr. Penn is a professor, director of research and vice-chairman in the department of ophthalmology and visual sciences at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Williams is the chair of medical optics and a professor of brain and cognitive sciences, optics, ophthalmology and biomedical engineering at University of Rochester in New York.  He has served as the director of the university’s Center for Visual Science since 1991.
