U.S. Athletes Turn to German Blood Treatment for Chronic Pain

U.S. athletes are increasingly turning to a form of biologic medicine in Germany to treat chronic pain, according to a New York Times report.

The treatment, which involves drawing blood and injecting it back several days later with new anti-inflammatory proteins that stimulate cell growth, is designed to treat inflammation as both a cause and symptom of tissue damage in the joints or lower back.

The therapy typically lasts five days, beginning with an evaluation and drawing of blood.
