According to the report, Dr. Donnenfield is one of a handful of U.S. surgeons experienced with the Alcon LenSx femtosecond laser. Island Eye Surgicenter is only the fourth surgical facility in the country to acquire the laser, which adds a new level of precision and predictability to cataract surgery.
The LenSx laser is able to capture precise, high-resolution digital images of the eye, which are then used to plan and perform a surgery to specifications previously unachievable with manual cataract surgery. The laser also adds computer control to key steps of the surgery, ensuring precise surgical incisions.
The LenSx laser is the first FDA-approved femtosecond laser for cataract surgery.
