Stephanie Ellis, RN, CPC, is the owner and president of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Ellis Medical Consulting and has provided healthcare consulting services to ASCs in that capacity since 1992. The consulting company offers a vast array of services, including medical record reviews/chart audits for documentation and coding issues, compliance plan development, litigation support and business/billing office assessments.
Prior to founding Ellis Medical Consulting, Ms. Ellis worked as an operations manager at a national case management services placement firm; case manager and utilization review nurse; director of quality assurance; manager of reimbursement and Medicaid specialist in Tennessee. She also served on the CIGNA Medicare statewide PCOM Advisory Committee from 2001 to 2003 and on the board of the Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Tennessee.
Ms. Ellis has also written many articles and spoken at numerous seminars on a wide variety of healthcare topics, including coding, billing and reimbursement issues. In a recent contributing article to Becker’s ASC Review, Ms. Ellis discussed the 120 CPT coding changes to ASC spine and pain management procedures.
