John Hammergren is chairman, president and CEO of McKesson Medical-Surgical, a provider of technology and distribution solutions for the healthcare industry. The company is the largest pharmaceutical distributor in North America, responsible for distributing one-third of the medicines used every day. McKesson also offers health IT systems, such as electronic health record and clinical decision support systems.
Mr. Hammergren has led at the helm of McKesson as president and CEO since 2001 and as chairman since 2002. Under his leadership, the company has seen remarkable growth into new markets and a $112 billion increase in revenues. Mr. Hammergren has served in other executive leadership roles at McKesson prior to being named president and CEO, including president of supply management. He first joined the company in 1996. The Department of Veterans Affairs recently chose McKesson to continue as the VA’s prime pharmaceutical supplier.

Aside from his leadership role at McKesson, Mr. Hammergren also serves on the Hewlett Packard board of directors and is a member of the Business Council and Business Roundtable. He has previous experience in supply chain management.
