ASC Leader to Know: Dr. Thomas Lorish of the Providence Brain Institute

Thomas Lorish, MD, is the medical director of the Providence Brain Institute in Portland, Ore., which offers a comprehensive range of programs to treat conditions of the brain and spine. Dr. Lorish joined Providence as the medical director of Rehabilitation Services at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in 1989.

Dr. Lorish’s leadership role has since grown to include medical director of Providence Health & Services’ regional orthopedics and rehabilitation and associate medical director for Providence Health Plans. During his tenure at Providence, Dr. Lorish has helped create the health system’s stroke center, epilepsy center, ALS center and multiple sclerosis center. The organization’s rehabilitation program has also grown significantly and now includes 28 locations.

In addition to his clinical and leadership roles at Providence, Dr. Lorish also works as a clinical instructor of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Oregon Health & Science University, where he earned his medical degree. He has been instrumental in Providence’s work toward ASC joint ventures.
