Akram Boutros, MD, is an internist and founder and CEO of BusinessFirst Healthcare Solutions, a regional consulting firm specializing in solutions for the healthcare industry.
Dr. Boutros has demonstrated his sharp business expertise over his 15-year tenure. He previously served as executive vice president and chief administrative officer at St. Francis Hospital-The Heart Center in Roslyn, N.Y., and as executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief medical officer at South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside, N.Y. Both organizations saw dramatic improvements in profitability and growth under Dr. Boutros’ leadership.
Dr. Boutros earned his medical degree at SUNY Health Sciences Center in New York City and also graduated from Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He has been recognized for his clinical work (Cardiovascular Science Award from the American Heart Association and the Physician Hero award from Long Island Business News) as well as his business acumen (David Award for Renaissance Men from Networking Magazine).
In a recent interview with Becker’s ASC Review, Dr. Boutros shared his insights on ASC specialties. He predicts the move of more spinal procedures into the ASC space, possible hospital-physician partnerships for orthopedics, growth in robot techniques in gynecological and urological procedures and the shift of cosmetics into physicians’ offices.
