ASC Industry Leader to Know: Holly Hampe of Amerinet

As director of quality and safety for Amerinet, Holly Hampe, RN, is invested in meeting requirements for infection control. In April, she shared her thoughts on controlling infection in ASCs with Becker’s ASC Review, saying that because “surgical site infections remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality even in ASCs,” centers must ensure that they are performing safe, high-quality procedures.

Ms. Hampe had a few basic tips for ASC administrators to prevent infection in their centers: establish a true culture of patient safety, designate an infection control professor, identify at-risk populations and procedures and constantly measure successes and failures. “You can’t improve what you don’t measure,” she said. “An evaluation and measurement process is a must for any infection program.”

In her position at Amerinet, Ms. Hampe is responsible for developing and coordinating company-wide strategy and programs on clinical quality improvement, patient safety and environmentally-friendly initiatives.

Commenting on her 2008 appointment to director of quality and safety, Amerinet Executive Vice President Randy Walter said in a statement, “With more than 25 years of healthcare experience, including an extensive background in patient safety, risk management, and regulatory affairs, Holly’s addition to our team further exemplifies our commitment to reduce healthcare costs and improve healthcare quality.”

Those 25 years of healthcare experience include hospital administration positions in quality, risk management, patient safety, regulatory affairs and nursing, giving Ms. Hampe a unique perspective from which to view the world of patient safety. In addition to her employment experience, Ms. Hampe received a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and a master’s degree in risk management from Finch University of Chicago Medical School.
