Dr. Russell told Becker’s ASC Review that in the midst of new legislation targeting healthcare policy and practice, it is crucial for physicians to continually focus on personal interaction with patients. “Medicine is an art,” he says. “You can’t have a computer or a set of governmental guidelines make a diagnosis correctly. A patient may come in with multiple symptoms and have to see many doctors who run different tests or have a different set of experiences. These differences can lead to incorrect diagnoses, and I fear that governmental guidelines will mean more patients will be left out of the formula.”
Dr. Russell received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He then attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he received his MD and completed his residency in orthopedics. Following residency training, Dr. Russell completed a spine surgery fellowship at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. from July 1996 to June 1997.
Specializing in the treatment of spine injury, deformity, and degeneration, Dr. Russell is affiliated with three hospitals: Trinity Mother Frances, East Texas Medical Center and the Texas Spine and Joint Hospital.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
