ASC Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Jeffrey Leider of the American Ear, Nose and Throat Institute

A board-certified otolaryngologist since 1993, Jeffrey Leider, MD, is particularly drawn to pediatric care — as well as the “young at heart” adult patients who visit his practice. More than anything, he wants patients to remember him as the kind of physician who listens to their concerns and treats the person — not just the condition.

As a co-owner of Great Lakes Surgical Center in Southfield, Mich., Dr. Leider is a strong advocate of physician-owned ASCs and was recently featured in a Detroit Metro News story on the rise of surgery centers in metro Detroit and other parts of Michigan. Dr. Leider recommended a standalone surgery center to the mother of a current pediatric patient, dismantling her assumption that a surgical procedure would have to be performed at a hospital.

As well as working as a physician and surgeon at the American Ear, Nose and Throat Institute in Farmington, Mich., Dr. Leider is affiliated with William Beaumont Hospital and Berry Surgery Center.

Dr. Leider earned his MD at the University of Michigan Medical School in 1988 and subsequently completed his otolaryngology residency at Wayne State University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolarynology and Head and Neck Surgery and has published numerous research articles, including one on the effect of head position on Eustachian tube function.

He feeds his interest in academic as a clinical assistant professor at Wayne State University, where he helps train otolaryngology residents.
