Decline in Payments Posted: Q&A With Dr. Brent Lambert of ASCOA

Brent Lambert, MD, is president and owner of Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America.Q: We recently hired a new staff member to post our ASC’s payments and we’re seeing a decline in the amount captured. What might be the cause of this decline?

Dr. Brent Lambert: We’ve seen people hire a new poster and she doesn’t check what the ASC is entitled to by their contract. She just takes the claim, posts it and then she writes off the rest because it’s a contractual adjustment. Mistakes are being made and she’s never picking them up. She’s posting it fine but not checking to see if what’s she’s posting is the correct amount. She’s taking whatever the payor is providing and not checking what the payor is contractually obligated to do.
