Dr. Lerner received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and completed his general surgery and urology residency at the University of Maryland Hospital. He then completed two fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston: one in male reproductive medicine and surgery and another in microsurgery in the plastic surgery division. Dr. Lerner’s specific clinical interests include vasectomy and vasectomy reversal, sperm retrieval procedures and male infertility.
Dr. Lerner discussed how to keep eligible cases at a surgery center in an interview with Becker’s ASC Review. Dr. Lerner said his administrative staff holds monthly meetings with physicians’ surgical posters to strengthen the relationship and discuss which cases are suitable for the ASC. The meetings also address any concerns that the posters have related to the scheduling of cases and issues with block or open time availability. “We’re in constant communication with our posters about what can and can’t be done in the ASC — and then within certain lines of service, which insurance plans should and shouldn’t be done in the ASC,” he said.
