Mr. Thoene brings 27 years of experience consulting for and developing ASCs throughout the U.S. He has developed surgery center investments for physicians, academic medical centers and health systems, and his specialties include turnkey development of ASCs, surgical specialty hospitals and medical office buildings. Mr. Thoene formerly served as the vice president of development for FSC Health and Titan Health and founded the development arm of Randlett Associates.
Mr. Thoene discussed the decision process for investing in an ASC at the 10th Annual Orthopedic, Spine and Pain Management-Driven ASC Conference in Chicago. He recommended evaluating the ASC developer to ensure that they are experienced in budget management. “It is okay to ask for references to evaluate an ASC — it is not intrusive at all,” he said. “If a physician asked me for references, I would know they were taking the opportunity and the decision seriously. That is they type of person I would want investing in the ASC.”
