Anthem Blue Cross Agrees to $15M Settlement Over Rescission Practices

The California Department of Insurance announced that Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Co. agreed to reinstate policies to 2,330 consumers whose coverage was rescinded between 2004 and 2008 without their consent, according to a Department of Insurance news release.

As part of the settlement, Anthem Blue Cross, California’s largest insurance provider, will pay a $1 million fine and reimburse policyholders an estimated $14 million for medical expenses that would have been covered if their policies had not been terminated.

In addition, Anthem Blue Cross will make changes to several of their procedures and policies.
