A group of physicians has formed a new medical society called America’s Medical Society in an attempt to bring together individual physicians and medical groups that are disenfranchised with the American Medical Association and oppose healthcare reform, according to an AMS news release.

The association’s founder, Adam F. Dorin, MD, MBA, said in the release, “Most doctors are finding themselves peering through a cloudy window trying to understand the backroom deals struck by the AMA.” He noted that less than 10 percent of the nation’s practicing physicians are members of the AMA.

The association also opposes recent healthcare reform, calling it a move that gives non-physicians a greater role in providing healthcare services, according to the release.
