ACS re-verifies Tampa General’s trauma center — 5 notes

The American College of Surgeons re-verified Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital’s Level 1 trauma center for adults and children.

Here are five notes:

1. TGH’s adult trauma center is one of only two verified Level 1 adult trauma centers in Florida and the only one on Florida’s west coast.

2. The Children’s Medical Center is the only verified Level 1 pediatric trauma program in Florida.

3. The ACS initially verified both TGH’s adult trauma center and the Children’s Medical Center in 2013.

4. Verified trauma centers must meet essential criteria outlined in the ACS’s Committee on Trauma’s current “Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient” manual.

5. Founded in 1913, the American College of Surgeons is the largest association of surgeons in the world with more than 72,000 members.
