The AAAHC will work initially with outpatient health centers in Costa Rica that voluntarily wish to pursue accreditation to assure access to quality healthcare services.
Accreditation for ambulatory organizations in other countries will eventually be added, according to the release.

“With the advent of medical tourism and the significant number of Americans living abroad, we feel it’s important to offer assurances that ambulatory medical services in other countries operate at a level consistent with U.S. ambulatory organizations that are AAAHC accredited,” John Burke, PhD, executive director and CEO of AAAHC, said in the release.

The AAAHC, founded in 1979, currently has more than 4,500 organizations accredited nationwide.
