Oregon legislation aims to help ASCs receive out-of-network reimbursement.
Oregon’s House of Representatives has restored a measure that is designed to prevent Regence BlueCross and BlueShield and other payers from using abusive payment practices when working with ambulatory surgery centers. The measure requires insurance companies to bill surgery centers directly or to send policy holder checks that must be signed by a surgery center manager before being cashed.

ASCA launches online map of Medicare-certified ASCs.
The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association has released a new online map of Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery centers and general acute care hospitals in the United States. The map is meant to be a resource for patients and physicians.

ICD-10 deadline will have no further delays.
During the HIMSS Media ICD-10 Forum in National Harbor, Md., Farzad Mostashari, MD, National Coordinator for Healthcare IT, stressed that the Oct. 1, 2014, deadline for ICD-10 implementation will remain the same.

36% of physician plan to leave medicine within 10 years.
A Jackson Healthcare survey found that 36 percent of physicians plan to retire or leave the medical field within the next 10 years. The survey found that physicians planning to leave medicine are experiencing burnout, economic pressures or do not want to practice in an era of healthcare reform.

Healthcare transparency market to 3B 2016.
A recent study in Healthcare Finance News projects that the market for healthcare transparency products and services will be valued at $3.09 billion by 2016. The market is currently valued at $540 billion.

Rockefeller Group site to include ASC.
Rockefeller Group plans to develop a 100,000-square foot facility at its site The Green at Florham Park, N.J. The facility will include an ambulatory surgery center.

Former CMS head Dr. Don Berwick announces run for Massachusetts governor.
Don Berwick, MD, CMS administrator from April 2010 to November 2011, has officially announced that he will run for Massachusetts governor. Dr. Berwick was a driving force behind the “triple aim” framework of President Obama’s healthcare reform law.
