ASC Quality and Access Act of 2013 introduced to US Senate.
Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) have introduced the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality and Access Act of 2013 to the U.S. Senate. The proposed legislation seeks to level the disparity between ASCs and hospital outpatient departments. The bill would no longer allow the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to use different measures of inflation for ASCs and HOPDs. The Ambulatory Surgical Center Association supports the bill.

Ohio proposes licensure & transfer agreement changes to ASC legislation.
Proposed changes to ambulatory surgery center licensure laws in Ohio aim to develop quality standards for ASCs and require ASCs to have a written transfer agreement with a nearby hospital.

Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Illinois contests proposed CON changes.
The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Illinois is currently recommending the state not accept proposed changes from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board that would place restrictions on ambulatory surgery centers trying to add specialties. These changes would not affect hospital outpatient departments. Mark Mayo, executive director of the association, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice asking for a review of the changes.  

Regent Surgical Health to open joint venture ASC in Portland.
Ambulatory surgery center management and development company Regent Surgical Health has partnered with a group of physicians and Providence Portland Medical Center to open a joint venture ASC. The surgery center will be located on the Providence Portland Medical Center campus.

Propofol removed from FDA drug shortage list.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has officially removed propofol from its drug shortage supply list. Propofol is available, but may take awhile to move through the supply chain. 

USPI honors ASC administrator Michael Galvin.
United Surgical Partners International has honored Michael Galvin with the 2012 CEO Award. Mr. Galvin is the administrator of The Christ Hospital Surgery Center in Cincinnati.
