Montefiore purchased the bankrupt Westchester Square Medical center in January and has now opened the Montefiore Westchester Square, which includes an ambulatory surgery center, in its place.
Merritt Healthcare, Avicenna partnership to create Bronx ASC.
Merritt Healthcare and Avicenna have partnered to open an ASC in the Bronx, N.Y. The surgery center will offer general surgery, podiatry, ENT, gastroenterology, pain management and orthopedics services.
Physician turnover at all-time high.
The American Medical Group Association and the 8th annual Physician Retention Survey have announced that physician turnover is the highest it has been since 2005. The average rate of medical group physician turnover was 6.5 percent in 2011 and 6.8 percent in 2012.
North Carolina CRNAs protest physician supervision.
Many North Carolina registered nurse anesthetists attended a General Assembly hearing to fight legislation that would require formal physician supervision of their work. CRNA opponents claim this will cause an increase in patients’ costs and a decrease in access to care.
Medical Facilities Corp.’s profit grows over 400%.
Medical Facilities Corp., a Toronto-based healthcare management company with a majority stake in an ASC and five US specialty hospitals, announced a net income of $62.2 million for 2012. This is five times more than its $12.1 million profit in 2011.
Medicare ACO results expected this summer.
Richard Gilfillan, MD, director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, announced that evidence on ACOs would be available this summer.
Legislation supporting Medicare covered colorectal cancer screenings introduced to House and Senate.
Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) and Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) introduced the Screen Act, which would waive beneficiary cost-sharing under Medicare for any colorectal cancer screenings that involve the removal of polyps.
