ASCA and attendees of last week’s annual meeting have donated nearly $12,000 to One Fund Boston, an organization focused on helping those affected by the Boston Marathon explosions.
Anthem Health to reimburse providers for $400k in underpayments.
On May 1, Wallingford, Conn.-based Anthem Health will begin informing healthcare providers of underpayments due to faulty billing practices dating back Jan. 1. Anthem has agreed to reimburse healthcare providers for nearly $400,000 in underpayments.
CMS to hold pioneer ACOs payment accountable to performance.
CMS denied its pioneer accountable care organizations’ request to delay linking pay to performance outcomes. As scheduled, pioneer ACOs will move from pay-for-reporting to pay-for-performance.
HHS releases updated culturally appropriate healthcare guidelines.
The U.S. Department of Human Health Services has released an updated version of the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care. The newly released edition is an update of the 2000 version.
Vacant New York courthouse to become ASC.
After over 30 years of vacancy, Rockaway Courthouse in New York will be converted into a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center and medical facility. The project is estimated to cost $10 million.
UC Riverside plans surgery center.
UC Riverside (Calif.) School of Medicine is in the process of acquiring an 11.5 acre parcel of land, which will become home to a surgery center and health campus. UC Riverside intends to use the campus as a residency training location.
84M Americans Under- or Uninsured in 2012
According to the Commonwealth Fund 2012 Biennial Health Insurance Survey, in 2012 84 million Americans were either without health insurance or underinsured. The survey also found 80 million Americans chose to not see a physician or fill a prescription due to the cost.
