6 More Exeter Hospital Patients Confirmed for Hepatitis C

Health officials confirmed that six more patients of Exeter (N.H.) Hospital tested positive for hepatitis C following a possible hepatitis C outbreak related to its cardiac catheterization lab in late May, according to a New Hampshire Union Leader report.

The new cases bring the total number of infected patients to 26. A hospital employee was also infected with the same virus strain.

Health officials believe the outbreak may have occurred after a hospital employee returned used syringes, although the investigation is ongoing. More than 1,000 patients have been tested so far.
