Researchers assessed data from the University HealthSystem Consortium to determine the change in MRSA cases at non-profit academic medical centers. Based on billing data sensitivity and data on the University of Chicago Medical Center, researchers determined the number of MRSA infections at academic medical centers increased from 20.9 per 1,000 hospital discharges in 2003 to 41.7 per 1,000 hospital discharges in 2008.
