The Ohio House of Representatives gave a standing ovation to Ohio hospitals when Rep. Cheryl Grossman (R-Grove City) offered a resolution to Solutions for Patient Safety, a partnership between Ohio business leaders and healthcare providers to improve quality and reduce preventable medical errors. So far, Solutions for Patient Safety has saved 14 lives and $7 million and was recently recognized by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.
Additionally, data from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality showed Ohio hospitals successfully reduced the overall rate of central line-associated bloodstream infections by 65 percent. By comparison, hospitals nationally reduced CLABSI rates in adult intensive care units by 35 percent.
