Here are five gastroenterologists who made headlines within the past week.

Andrew Ringel, MD, joined Pensacola, Fla.-based Baptist Medical Group. He specializes in comprehensive care of the digestive system.

Ziyad Wadi, MD, was named medical director of gastroenterology and hepatology for Nanticoke Health Services in Delaware.

Camden, N.J.-based Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology are partnering to expand liver disease services. Manish Thapar, MD, will serve as the medical director of the Lourdes Liver Transplant Program.

Pediatric gastroenterologist Zahangir Khaled, MD, of UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill., received the Rock Doc Awards at the Illinois CancerCare Foundation’s annual CUREageous fundraiser.

Tucson-based University of Arizona is planning to conduct a clinical trial that will evaluate the effects of a common food additive on irritable bowel syndrome. Ronnie Fass, MD, a gastroenterologist at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson, is collaborating and advising on the study.
