11 statistics to know on physician ownership

Most ASC management companies prefer to have more than five physician owners, according to the 2019 ASC Valuation Survey by HealthCare Appraisers.

HealthCare Appraisers and the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association collected data from 26 companies, including ASC management companies, investment bankers and business brokers, to compile its report.

The key physician ownership statistics to know:

The number of physician owners preferred for single specialty centers:
1. One to five: 13 percent
2. Six to 10: 50 percent
3. 11 to 15: 27 percent
4. 16 to 20: 7 percent
5. 21 to 25: 3 percent

The number of physician owners preferred for multispecialty centers:
6. One to five: 11 percent
7. Six to 10: 25 percent
8. 11 to 15: 39 percent
9. 16 to 20: 18 percent
10. 21 to 25: 3 percent
11. Greater than 30: 7 percent
