The owner of Houston-based Hallco Medical Supply, a durable equipment provider, has pleaded guilty in connection with a Medicare fraud scheme, according to a Department of Justice news release.

Akinsunbo Akinbile pleaded guilty to eight counts of healthcare fraud. Court documents show Hallco submitted Medicare claims for DME that was medically unnecessary and/or never provided. Much of the equipment Hallco billed Medicare for consisted of orthotic devices, particularly components of “arthritis kits” purportedly used to treat arthritis-related conditions.

From June 2007-May 2009, Hallco submitted approximately $737,770 in false claims to Medicare. Mr. Akinbile will be sentenced Feb. 15. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
