With 17% revenue growth, da Vinci maker expands footprint: 5 insights

Intuitive Surgical leased two large buildings in Santa Clara, Calif., after reporting solid sales results in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to The Mercury News.

Five insights:

1. Each building is about 105,000 square feet.

2. The buildings are about one mile away from Intuitive Surgical's headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif., where the company houses its engineering, manufacturing and administrative operations.

3. Intuitive Surgical's flagship product is the da Vinci Surgical System, which enables physicians to perform robot-assisted surgery using a remote console.

4. Worldwide da Vinci procedures grew approximately 19 percent year-over-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, Intuitive Surgical reported. The company shipped 290 da Vinci Surgical Systems. 

5. Its fourth quarter revenue was $1.047 billion, up about 17 percent from the same quarter in 2017.

"Our business has grown significantly over the past several years, necessitating expansion in locations worldwide, including Sunnyvale," said Peper Long, Intuitive Surgical's director of media relations.
