CVS Health has recruited the U.S. Postal Service to pick up prescriptions at CVS stores and deliver them to customers' homes, The Wall Street Journal reports.

1. Prescriptions will arrive in one to two days for $4.99 per delivery.
2. Deliveries could include over-the-counter products such as aspirin or face wash.
3. In 2017, CVS executives revealed plans to launch the service but didn't disclose how the costly last-mile delivery service would be handled. The rollout comes amid falling sales and pressure from competitors.
4. CVS provides mail-order prescriptions through its pharmacy-benefits manager.
5. Historically, filling prescriptions helped CVS bring customers into its stores. Retail made up about 40 percent of the company's total revenue in 2017.
6. Amazon delivers an estimated half of its U.S. packages through the Postal Service daily. The company has considered launching a prescription offering and ventured into the medical supply business.
Other major retailers have asked United Parcel Service, FedEx or startups to carry out similar home delivery services.
