Here are six notes:
1. Stryker asked the Portage City Council to expand an industrial development district to cover the expansion site and cut property taxes in half for the development.
2. Construction on the $92 million expansion is expected to begin this fall and end by 2020.
3. Stryker expects the addition to create 260 new jobs with an average annual salary of $73,000 by 2025. The existing facility has 930 employees.
4. If Stryker’s application is approved, Portage would forgo $1.1 million in property taxes during a 12-year period and collect $1.1 million in new tax revenue.
5. In April, the council agreed to give Pfizer a tax cut for a $465 million expansion expected to create 450 jobs within six years.
6. A vote is expected to take place at a June 26 public hearing. Portage City Manager Larry Shaffer expects the abatement to be approved.
