Several groups call for more user-friendly EHRs — 3 insights

Several advocacy groups responded to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT's call for public comments on draft recommendation to make EHRs more user-friendly, HealthcareIT News reports.

1. The American Medical Informatics Association submitted comments, including the following:

  • Fixing the root cause of EHR dissatisfaction
  • Streamlining substance use disorder related requirements
  • Creating metrics to better measure EHR change
  • Decoupling clinical documentation records from billing, regulatory and administrative requirements

2. Groups such as the American Medical Informatics Association and the Electronic Health Records Association submitted comments, among others.

3. AMIA CEO Douglas Fridsma, MD, said, "Rather than be the focal point of a clinical visit, technology should be invisible to our clinicians’ workflows. Our regulatory and policy approaches need a paradigm shift so that our informatics tools can realize their potential to heal healthcare."
