President Trump's prediction drug companies would slash prices goes unrealized — 4 insights

President Donald Trump's prediction that several drug companies would make "voluntary, massive price cuts," in two weeks has yet to come to fruition, the Washington Post reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. President Trump made the prediction at the end of May.

2. HHS Secretary Alex Azar tried to distance the administration from the two-week timeline by saying drug companies were facing hurdles in their efforts to cut costs.

3. Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said, "We're not going to get ahead of any forthcoming announcements."

4. The White House alleged companies have been working to lower their drug prices for the last year. The Washington Post said the lack of action following several of President Trump's promises suggests the price decreases could still be a ways away.
