Testing all pediatric patients for COVID-19 before they undergo procedures requiring anesthesia may help conserve personal protective equipment, according to research presented at the American Society of Anesthesiologists' 2020 annual meeting.

COVID-19 has changed the way surgery centers view disposables. Before the pandemic, disposables were a part of ambulatory surgical center (ASC) processes, but many reusable items were common.

Traverse City, Mich.-based Copper Ridge Surgery Center acquired the da Vinci Surgical System after considering it "for the last couple of years," center CEO Tina Piotrowski, BSN, said, the Traverse City Record Eagle reports.

ASCs provide high-quality care but need to show the public ways they cut down errors, enhance outcomes, boost efficiency and reduce costs, according to a column in Healthcare Tech Outlook.
