Orthopedic surgeon's self-pay platform makes waves at AANA — 5 details

A surgeon-created solution for ASCs and their self-pay patients could make a big splash in the orthopedic space, according to the investors, physicians and medical executives who judged the AANA Innovation Exchange Pitch Competition.

Five details:

1. HealthMe Technology won the inaugural competition, which was created to showcase emerging technologies in minimally invasive orthopedic care.

2. HealthMe Technology is an online marketplace helping ASCs, physician offices and imaging centers accommodate increasing numbers of self-pay patients.

3. HealthMe founder and CEO Michael Havig, MD, presented the solution to judges and audience members at the Arthroscopy Association of North America's annual meeting, May 2-4 in Orlando, Fla.

4. HealthMe won complimentary exhibit space at AANA's 2020 meeting in Grapevine, Texas, and a $5,000 credit toward a structured AngelMD investment syndicate. Along with the other four finalists, HealthMe also gained complimentary exhibit access at AANA's 2019 meeting.

5. The finalists were selected from 30-plus applicants by AANA physician leaders and executives from AngelMD, an online community for healthcare startups, entrepreneurs and investors.
