Microbot Medical names former Codman Neurosurgery president to board: 4 key points

Microbot Medical, a company focused on developing transformational micro-robotic medical technologies, appointed P. Laximarain to the company's board of directors.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Laximarain has more than 30 years of experience as a medical device executive, most recently serving as worldwide president of Codman Neurosurgery. The company was acquired from Johnson & Johnson by Integra LifeSciences in October 2017 for around $1 billion.

2. Originally joining Johnson & Johnson in 1986, Mr. Laximarain spent more than 10 years as Codman Neurosurgery president before the acquisition. He also held senior medical device positions in India, Singapore and South Korea.

3. Mr. Laximarain will fill a seat on the board vacated by Prof. Moshe Shoham, who left the board to spend time on the scientific side of the company.

"The emergence of medical robotics is one of the most promising areas in healthcare and it offers tremendous growth opportunities, especially in areas such as neurosurgery," said Mr. Laxminarain.

4. Microbot was founded in 2010 and its current platforms include ViRob and TipCAT.
