1. There were 360 medical device recalls in the second quarter, an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous quarter.
2. However, the number of recalled units decreased 80 percent, to about 42.4 million.

4. Eighty-two device recalls were caused by software issues, making that the top cause of recalls for the ninth consecutive quarter. Sterility was the top cause specifically for recalled units.
5. Sixteen companies reported at least five recalls.
